Shining a light on #VRU #crashes Injuries and fatalities among pedestrians, cyclists, scooterists, highway road workers, and safety and emergency personnel—often referred to as vulnerable road users (VRUs)—continue to rise at alarming rates worldwide. As new modes of transportation continue to emerge, the safety of all shared road users is of critical concern. About us
The VRUSC is a collaborative and precompetitive member-led global consortia program comprised of members and stakeholders drawn from a cross-section of the worldwide transportation ecosystem, including vehicle, micromobility, and technology sectors. The VRUSC mission is to achieve safer roads for all, with a particular focus on cyclists, pedestrians, road workers, and other shared road users. The VRUSC is a proud member of the Fullsight and SAE Industry Technologies Consortia (SAE ITC) family of global consortia programs.

Rbe #VRUSC is attending #NACTO2024 NACTO (National Association of City Transportation Officials) is comprised of fine folks that have the immense challenge of running municipal transportation systems in a way that keeps all of us moving thru the shared landscape safely & efficiently. So many fascinating ideas, many questions & opportunities for collaboration to think thru & work to resolve big problems, together, in #safemobility which is what we do SAE Industry Technologies Consortia If you are attending #NACTO2024, please come find me & let’s compare notes! #collaboration #VulnerableRoadUsers VRU Safety Consortium (VRUSC) #SaferSharedRoafsForAll

Work Zones are temporary. Actions behind the wheel can last forever. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month. As we approach spring & summer in the northern hemisphere, we see even more road construction. Yes indeed, we all get frustrated with travel delays, but these hard-working people also keep roads safe & useable, and sometimes it costs far too many lives. In 2022, out of 891 deaths, over 700 included drivers and their passengers and other bystanders, including cyclists and pedestrians. Let’s all work to slow down and stay focused while approaching and passing through a roadway work zone. #NWZAW #Orange4Safety #SaferSharedRoadsForAll #VRUs WorkZoneSafety.org.

These numbers are not about hating cars, they are really about a declining quality of life for all when moving about outside of a moving vehicle is the least safe option. #SaferSharedRoadsForAll

Pedro Homem de Gouveia- thank you for sharing. To continue to drive support for related approaches such as #ActiveTransport #CircularEconomy, it is critical to continue to show the real economic benefits. #SaferRoadsForAll #SharedMobility https://lnkd.in/gtF38Pmv

If you think that Mobility-as-a-Service (#MaaS), #CarSharing and #CarPooling will never take off because "people will always want to own their own car", look at this project. Appliances-as-a-Service. Social worker Stefan Goemaere started the Papillon project to help poor families reduce their energy costs. Not being able to afford the most energy-efficient appliances (always more expensive) keeps them stuck with high energy bills... and energivore old appliances. This projects makes those high-end appliances available, through rental + service contracts. Now here comes an extra-interesting detail: to do this, he teamed up with BOSCH, a leadind manufacturer. They were already looking into the #CircularEconomy, to see how the company would be affected. And another extra-interesting detail: when he approached them, Stefan made it clear, from the start, that he didn't want anything to do with #CorporateSocialResponsibility. He wanted to make sure this would be good business for Bosch too... if not a large profit, then at least over the break even, to make sure they'd keep going in the years to come. Very cool project, with interesting paralels with the Mobility sector. The video sound is not good (my fault, sorry), but it's worth trying to listen :-P

Complete Streets is a terrific resource for advocates and professionals that value a perspective of first determining the best way to move people and goods safely, and not just assume another road or lane must be added. The VRU Safety Consortium (VRUSC) welcomes these resources and perspectives focused on making #SharedRoadsSaferForAll Barbara McCann +1 on your favorite quote about "...85th percentile and speed limit determination..." https://lnkd.in/ggaWf8Zq #mobility #activetransportation #safersharedroadsforall

Thank you Molly McCarthy and AutoVision News for the honor and opportunity to participate in the article and help to communicate the ongoing challenges to make roads safer for those who walk, run, ride, and roll. Making the roads safer for those outside moving vehicles continues to be a challenge. As with so many things, the solutions are not simple, and we must keep the pressure to reverse the growing numbers of injured, maimed for life, and killed for simply sharing the road. Each member of the transportation equation has a critical role to play. The SAE ITC VRU Safety Consortium (VRUSC) is bringing together stakeholders from across the global transportation ecosystem to work towards pragmatic solutions and we welcome broad global industry collaboration to help drive real and lasting change. #SaferSharedRoadsForAll #collaboration #VRUSafety #VRUSC SAE Industry Technologies Consortia https://lnkd.in/gGPV8zYA
